Description
Partial or complete tooth loss at age 40 is not always the fault of the individual. The cause can be bad heredity or an accident. At Family Dent, we have met patients who brush their teeth twice a day, but this did not save them. A person without teeth experiences daily torment. You know it happens three times a day when it is time for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The person is left with the feeling that he or she never ate anything.
As a result of partial tooth loss, there is an increase in the space between the teeth. Food particles get in there unhindered, which leads to the development of tooth decay. A little time passes and the remaining teeth are in danger of being extracted. This is like a domino effect, where the absence of a few teeth in the medium term leads to the loss of healthy teeth. This is why dental prosthetics are important to be done at the initial stage.
Modern prosthetics (Kiev): crowns, bridges, removable and fixed prostheses
Depending on the number of missing teeth, their partial defeat or in consequence of diseases and injuries, modern dentistry classifies prosthetics as follows:
- Dental crowns – single prosthetics for teeth that have not lost their foundation.
- Dental bridges – prosthetics for several teeth that are in the same tooth row.
- Removable dentures are for patients with multiple tooth loss.
- Removable dentures can be in cases where one or more teeth have been extracted using a permanent attachment. Fixed dentures, in turn, can include the above-mentioned crowns and bridges.

Tooth crowns, or how to avoid full dentures
In cases of partially damaged teeth, we offer our patients dental crowns. This simple type of prosthetics has a number of advantages and features, which we would like to introduce you to right now.
A patient came to us with the fourth stage of caries, which in the course of treatment resulted in the loss of more than 50% of the hard tooth tissue. In such cases, there is every reason to install crowns.

Photo 1 clearly demonstrates the impossibility of filling, so a decision was made, in agreement with the patient, to prepare the teeth for crown placement.
The prerequisite for placing a crown on a tooth is the creation of a so-called tooth stump. In the language of the patient, this means that a tooth base is needed on which the crown will be placed in the next step.
In dentistry, a tooth stump is divided into:
- Based on the patient’s tooth;
- Based on artificial materials (ceramic, metal).
Installation of a stump inlay
As mentioned above, the loss of tooth hard tissue in this case exceeded 50%, which made it impossible to reconstruct the residual limb on the basis of the patient’s own tooth. Therefore, metal inlays were placed after preparation.

After this procedure, a special impression is made, without which it is impossible to create a dental crown for each individual case.
The placement of dental crowns
A metal-ceramic crown is a single dental prosthesis based on two materials:
- Metal is used as a reliable material for the base of the crown. Modern prosthodontics has moved away from all-metal crowns. It is not so common now to see young people with ‘iron teeth’. This is especially true for the front teeth.
- Ceramics as an aesthetic material. The colour and structure of ceramic resembles a human tooth, which is why it is used as the upper part of a metal-ceramic crown.

To summarise, dental crowns are an effective method of prosthetics that partially preserves the tooth and allows for spot-on prosthetics without subjecting neighbouring teeth to dental procedures.
Fixed Denture, or how to get your front incisors back
The following denture example will illustrate how it is possible to restore a person’s front teeth. A dental bridge is the best prosthetic option when the teeth are in poor condition in one row. If it is the front row, then the patient has higher demands on the appearance of the denture.

A number of dental procedures have been performed in preparation for prosthetic anterior teeth. Among them, it is important to note:
- Treatment of medium caries. Preparation for prosthetics also includes therapeutic treatment;
- Tooth preparation. Since the tooth lesion in this case is of a medium nature, the base of the teeth was used as a stump. This is exactly the case when an artificial inlay is not necessary.

After the work was done, an accurate dental impression was created, based on which the patient received new front teeth thanks to a dental bridge.
Dentures. Clip-on denture, or new teeth in two months
A middle-aged man came to our clinic with the problem of missing almost all teeth of the upper jaw. The patient was offered a bracket denture.

The photo above demonstrates the complexity of this dental case. The degree of integrity of the teeth did not make it possible to use them as inlays. Therefore, the decision was made to install metal-based inlays.

As a result of the preparatory work and impression taking, the patient received a lightweight bracket denture. This is one of the features of this type of denture. The metal arch makes this construction durable and reliable.

The fitting of the prosthesis does not require specialised skills. Clip-on dentures are removable prosthetics.

Special hooks ensure the secure attachment of the braces. This type of denture has revolutionised modern dentures. This remarkable bracket has replaced uncomfortable plastic-based and solid dentures.
